The Annual National Pez Convention is now in it's 5th year and growing stronger with each passing year. All of the conventions are held at the same place--the Airport Hilton Hotel at 10330 Natural Bridge Road, directly across from the east terminal of the airport. Our staff chose this hotel because of it's many great features such as free shuttle to the airport, game rooms for the kids, and indoor swimming pool with hot tub. The Airport Hilton also features a wonderful all-you-can-eat buffet with many specialized items such as prime rib, shrimp, pasta, salads, many rich deserts and much more, all priced very reasonably.

The 1st convention attendance was light, the second had a better turn-out, but by the 3rd convention, attendance grew to well over 200, with people coming as far away as Canada and even Hong Kong.

Highlighting last years convention, people started arriving as early as Wednesday to get a head start on Pez and enjoy all the wonderful sites St. Louis has to offer such as the Arch, St. Louis Zoo, Art Museum, Antique Malls, and all gambling boats.

Thursday came with more people arriving to get a head start on room hopping (room hopping is the art of going room-to-room so you can buy, sell or trade Pez dispensers or other Pez related items.) Friday came quickly with more people to arrive for a wonderful fun filled week-end.

Friday's activities consisted of picking up packets in the hospitality room 810. There you can see the following Pez in a locked display case from John "Cool Pez Man" Devlin's collection.

For the 1996 Convention, you will see:
Many different colored regulars, the arithmetic, personalized at least 4 advertising regulars (2 of the 4 are only known examples), Wolfman, Creature & Frankenstein, Rare Thor variations (including one of a kind.) 3 different colored Space Troopers, Soft head "prototypes" Donald and Pluto. Psychedelic Eye and Psychedelic Flower with different stems. The following crazy fruit Pez: Orange and Pear. Bubblegum, Obelix, Asterix, Make-A-Face, Hippo, Vucko Wolf, Olive Oyl and Brutus. Color variations of: Girl, Maharajah, 50's space gun, King Louie, Octopus, witch, Koala Whistlehead, Goofy, Indian Chief, Cool Cat, Droopy Dog, Mr. Ugly, Mexican Boy.

Some preferred sitting and chatting with other Pez heads, while still others started room hopping. By 7pm Pez Bingo started (which originated at the 1st St. Louis Convention and proven to be a hit at all Pez Conventions.) Playing for Pez dispensers and other Pez novelties, fun and laughter filled the banquet room.

After Pez bingo came more late night room hopping.

Saturday brought early morning dealer set-up for the show which included many raffles and door prizes for a chance to win even more Pez.

Then it was time for the auction, bidding on newer Pez and that illusive Pez dispenser and other rare Pez memorabilia. For those who dared, even more room hopping.

Sunday is the final day of the convention, lots of late morning sleepers, trying to rest up for the long journey home, while others are trying for that last minute Pez deal before they start for home.

Thus ends another enjoyable Pez Convention.

Meanwhile the host and his staff are preparing for next years bigger and better Pez Convention.

Until next year--Happy Pezzing
John "Cool Pez Man" Devlin

The 4th St. Louis Pez Convention

The 1996 St. Louis Pez Convention was a huge success...the biggest ever! About 200 Pez collectors pre-registered and 500 attended. Media coverage was enormous!! Three television stations, plus radio and newspaper coverage. Entertainment Weekly's July 26, 1996 issue even had a mention! Thanks to all the attendees that made the 4th Annual National Pez Convention in St. Louis such a success! See you next year!
